J'Kayla Lawson, LPC

My name is J’Kayla Lawson, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I’m a Shreveport, LA native and have been serving my hometown and surrounding areas as a mental health provider since 2020. 

I have experience working with children, teens, adults and families addressing various areas including trauma, grief, depression, self-esteem, anxiety, and interpersonal issues. 

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, teaching dance at church, singing, road trips, and being a mom to my daughter. 

I don’t take for granted the privilege of guiding my clients through the most vulnerable phases of their lives, and my goal is always to create a safe space for opening the doors that we often would rather keep shut. I am truly humbled and grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside people who are searching for growth, healing, and understanding through their counseling journeys. 

My approach focuses on honesty, strengths exploration, and collaboration to ensure that clients feel empowered throughout this process. 

While this road is not an easy one, I do believe that it’s always worth it. Once you feel ready to make a change, I will be happy to help you work through life’s obstacles and find meaning and purpose in them. urrently live in the Baton Rouge area and work with varying situations including grief, anger, anxiety, depression, relaxation, hypnosis, and some substance abuse issues.  I work mainly with adults, but also with teenagers as well.   

I love when a client comes in and has difficulty overcoming an obstacle to understanding and watching them light up at some point having an epiphany, therefore changing their life from that point out.  "AHA!" moments is what I enjoy the most as it creates a pathway to self improvement.  I enjoy watching someone overcome and move through trauma from their past and find themselves for the first time in a long time. 

I have been Vice President of the Louisiana Hypnotherapy Organization in the past for 2 years and love animals.  I am a very spiritual person and enjoy reading and painting in my spare time.  My dream is to travel around the world and learn another language.    My specialty is hypnotherapy/guided relaxation, anxiety, self esteem, substance abuse, and grief.
